June Camp 2026

Our annual June Camp commenced on 29 June. This year’s June Camp, dubbed “The Amazing Race Across Singapore”, was a unique one where patrols embarked on a hiking expedition across Singapore over the course of two days. Throughout the expedition, Scouts were tested on their ability to navigate unfamiliar terrain, work effectively as a team, and persevere through challenges. 

Day 1

The camp commenced with an inspection to ensure that all Scouts were properly equipped with the necessary gear and essentials for the expedition ahead. This served as an important opportunity to verify their preparedness and reinforce the importance of accountability and self-sufficiency before embarking on the hike. 

The expedition began on the afternoon of 29 June, as Scouts set off from Catholic High School to various locations across Singapore to complete checkpoints. Countless checkpoints were scattered throughout the island, from Palawan Beach to Marina Bay Sands and even Changi Airport. Racing against time, patrols sought to complete as many checkpoints as they could while carefully planning their routes and managing their resources.

At each checkpoint, Scouts were tasked with different challenges to earn points. Some required confidence and communication skills, others demanded strong navigational abilities, while several called for creativity and filming skills. All data was logged in a purpose-built June Camp App.

The final destination for the day was Pasir Ris Park, where the Scouts would settle for the night. Upon arriving at the campsite, patrols promptly constructed their bashas before showering, having supper, and recharge in preparation for the next day’s expedition.

Day 2

The next day began with the dismantling of the campsite in the early morning. After packing up and ensuring that the campsite was left clean and orderly, the troop set off together for Downtown East, where Scouts purchased their lunch and hiking snacks before commencing the next leg of their expedition.

Day 2 featured a demanding hike from Downtown East back to Catholic High School, with several checkpoints positioned along the route to guide the Scouts. Equipped with only a topographic map and an orienteering kit, the Scouts relied on their navigation skills to chart their course, making this the ultimate test of their orienteering abilities.

The journey was physically demanding, but the Scouts demonstrated remarkable resilience and embodied the true spirit of Scouting throughout the expedition. Despite the long distances, challenging terrain, and relentless heat, they pressed on with determination, encouraging one another every step of the way.

Along the route, a variety of side quests kept spirits high and added excitement to the journey, making the experience both rewarding and memorable.

Due to time constraints, scouts took public transport from Sengkang Grand Mall to ITE. Their final stretch of their hike was from ITE to Catholic High School.

 Encouragement and support filled the air as the patrols competed against each other to see who could reach Catholic High School the fastest.

After reaching back to Catholic High, the patrols had one final task before completing the camp, which was a mini pioneering challenge. Every patrol had to construct a slanted tripod flag tower with their patrol flag at the top.

This was another test of their resilience and determination, as they did this after their long hike back from Pasir Ris Park.

Throughout the camp, all the patrols have pushed themselves to the limits as they compete against each other. After intense competition, Shark Patrol emerged as the best patrol for June Camp. Congratulations to Shark Patrol! However, let's not forget that every patrol have performed well to overcome these challenges together, strengthening their trust, forging lasting brotherhood, and creating unforgettable memories along the way.

Our Scouts also had their takeaways from this camp. Below are some reflections from them:

The most important lesson learnt in this camp is the importance of encouragement. During  Day 2 hike, I pushed my sec 1s a lot to try and achieve the fastest hike timing to help us achieve best patrol. Hence, they kept wanting to give up mid-hike as it was too physically tolling for them. This was when I came up with the solution of constantly encouraging and motivating them with various stuff like water breaks and catching the next patrol slightly ahead of us. This constant encouragement allowed us to achieve the second fastest hike back to school, teaching me the importance of encouragement rather than constant scolding.

One critical turning point in camp was after our Day 1 amazing race, when we were finishing up, we fell from 1st place to 4th place. This sudden fall in position made our whole patrol very demoralised and upset. But instead of giving up we decided to turn this setback into a motivator to motivate us to work harder to be better for day 2. Therefore, since we knew that if we wanted to achieve best patrol, we knew we had to try our best in Day 2 rather than pondering over Day 1´s setback. I learnt that failure may not always be bad and may even be a blessing in disguise.

The turning point was when the end goal was changed. At first, our patrol was focused on reaching CHS first because we thought it would give us an edge in terms of points and help us win. However, the objective was later changed to completing another task. Our morale dropped because we had been relying on reaching first. Despite this, we remained optimistic, adapted to the new situation, and focused on the new objective. This taught us to stay flexible and work together even when things do not go as planned.

An unexpected challenge was not having a compass during part of the hike. Instead of panicking, we worked together and used estimation to navigate. We paid attention to our surroundings and discussed our route as a patrol. In the end, we managed to find the next checkpoints and continued our journey successfully.
