To kick off the June holidays, our Venture Scouts and a few scout volunteers partnered with Dads@CHS to organise the Moontent camp for our Primary School brothers. The Moontent camp is a 2D1N camp in school for dads and sons to bond through games while learning scouts related skills like outdoor cooking and tent pitching, aiming to create shared memories and experiences between the dads and sons.

Bright and early on Day 1, everyone gathered in the school hall for the opening ceremony, which included icebreakers for the sons and dads to get to know each other better. After taking group photos, we headed to the nearby Fairprice at Bishan North, where the dads and sons bought ingredients to cook lunch for themselves.

Naturally, lunch came soon after, and despite only being given tommy cookers and solid fuel, the dads were prepared, having brought more than your traditional mess tins to cook. The creativity of the dishes and the cooking techniques was endless, and the dads and sons enjoyed a well-earned meal together.

After lunch, they went around school in teams to take part in our different game stations, run by the scout volunteers, such as fill the bucket, and 3 legged catching. These games were carefully designed by our venture scouts to require teamwork and co-ordination, with the aim of facilitating communication and bonding between the campers. Many of the games also included wet elements, and the campers enjoyed clearing the stations together while playfully splashing each other with water.

Following this, the dads and sons worked together to pitch their tent in the field, before washing up and having a buffet dinner.

The night was still young, as they say. After the buffet dinner, we had a campfire where our campers got to learn campfire songs, take part in challenges and enjoy one another's company. The teams also took turns to present their group cheers which they had created during the icebreaker section. The campfire ended with the school song, which we all sang together as one.

The campers had an early start on day 2, unpitching their tents to a beautiful sunrise, and breaking camp after a buffet breakfast. The campers thoroughly enjoyed themselves and had a fulfilling time bonding with each other. Thanks to Dads@CHS as well as our camp staff for this successful camp, and cheers to many more meaningful Moontent camps!
