On the 25th of April 2026, our Catholic High Cub Scouts, Scouts, and Ventures participated in the South Area Orienteering Competition, navigating through the verdant terrain of Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.
Outstanding Achievements
Our units did the troop proud with their amazing performance, winning impressive awards back for the troop. Of the three Scout teams that competed, all three of them achieved the Gold award, with one of our Gold-winning teams placed at an outstanding Overall 3rd Place finish. Our Ventures unit also secured a Bronze award.
We would like to express our gratitude to the organisers for hosting this wonderful event. Congratulations to all our participants for their incredible efforts and for bringing glory to the troop!

Be Prepared
Needless to say, our success did not come by chance. It was built on dedication and diligent preparation. Our Scouts spent the weeks leading up to the competition sharpening their orienteering skills and improving their physical endurance. The troop even had a mock orienteering test at Bishan Park on 11 April 2026 to familiarise themselves with the competition.
Despite the heavy preparation, our Scouts still faced obstacles in the competition, as shown in a reflection by Samuel Seow of Pigeon Patrol:
"To prepare for this competition, we ran during patrol days and Saturdays. Besides that, we revised on MGR, bearing and using the compass. During our competition, we paid attention to pace ourselves while searching for the identification numbers. However, some of our checkpoints were far from the path we decided upon, which took up precious time we couldn’t afford. We had to skip certain checkpoints with lower points in order for us to reach back to Pierce Secondary School on time, and thus avoiding the heavy latecoming penalty. In the end, it was the right decision as we managed to clinch a gold for the competition. From this competition, we learnt how to properly manage our time and the importance of weighing our risks in going to the far checkpoints to make rational decisions."
While we are proud of our Scouts’ spectacular performance, we can always find ways to improve ourselves. We will continue to work harder and are determined to emerge even stronger next year.
