On 7 December 2022, two of our Venture Scouts have been conferred the President’s Scout Award at the Istana. Our two awardees are Avern Tan and Foo Ming Han.
The President’s Scout Award is the pinnacle award that Venture Scouts can attain, and is awarded to Venture Scouts who have displayed a strong commitment to the Scout movement and the community, exceptional leadership and proficient skills.
Below is a short reflection by one of our recipients Avern Tan:
'The President's Scout Award is not just a simple award. To me, it is the closing of a 10-year journey as a follower and the start of a new one as a leader. The award is also about perseverance and the people I met along the way. I have experienced failure but did not give up because my fellow Scouts and leaders showed me their unending support and encouragement.
Scouting has made me into the person I am today and I am glad to have been able to contribute to the movement's growth. The award is a reaffirmation of the scouting Promise and Laws that we, whether as a Scout or as a person, should always persevere in the face of adversity and do our daily turn of good to leave our community a little brighter.
I want to thank my Scout Leaders for all that they have done for me and their unmatched dedication, as well as my fellow Scouts for their constant support and love for me in everything that I do.'
Congratulations to our recipients and those from all across Singapore for their outstanding achievement! May they continue to find success and continue to spread their knowledge as role models to their juniors as they follow the Scouts' Method.
