Our troop's story

HISTORY

Whilst Catholic High Scout Group flourishes, it cannot do so without good roots. Journey with us as we explore the origin of our Scout Troop. Our Scout Troop started on 24 Jan 1948 as the first Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) in Catholic High School, also formerly known as Extra-Curricular Activity (ECA). The founding of our Scout Troop was witnessed by God.

我们的诞生由天主见证。

SIGNIFICANCE OF OUR TOTEMS

Carved by hand, totems are an iconic symbol unique to scouting in Catholic High.

Recently, we had the honor of having four of our alumni, Peter Chung Tong Keng 曾東铿,  Lee Chee Choon 李芝铨, Andrew Low Wui Meng 盧徽明 and Ling Swee Kean 林瑞敬, come back to visit.

They explained to us its significance, and the history of the totem poles. Taking almost a year to carve, these totems are almost a decade older than Singapore herself.

Our previous website was made by talented Scouts and Ventures and dates back a very long time. It was called CHSSCOUTS.NET and was made purely out of programs and codes in the language HTML.

MEMORIES FROM THE 1970s

OUR SCOUT DEN

The Hike

The Scout Troop went on a hike in November 2017 to explore the origins of our Scout Den. Below are the different locations that our previous Scout Den was located.

OUR FIRST SCOUT DEN

Our Scout Den has shifted locations throughout the years, and has an interesting story behind it.

  • Our first Scout Den began in the old Catholic High School, created in 1948. It is a small wooden hut standing opposite the Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral located at Queen's Street, also known as the Arts and Cultural District. Scouting camps, meetings and other activities were always held in the vicinity.

OUR SECOND SCOUT DEN

  • The Scout Den was then vacated in 1979 and moved to Gentle Road in 1980, now known as the Inland Revenue Authority Of Singapore(IRAS) in the Novena District. While this was a big change at the time, the Scouts had no time to rest.

TODAY

In 1990, the Scout Den was once again shifted, this time to Bishan Street 12, right next to Guang Yang Secondary School, before shifting once again in 1993 to Bishan Street 22, now known as Catholic High School. The Scout Den was also renovated in 2017.

This is where the Scout Den is located now.
Right at the heart of Catholic High School.
